For the Lumen Prize’s 13th anniversary and inaugural benefit auction, I created “Luz Difuminada | Alpha Edition,” a unique, 1 of 1 edition from an unreleased generative art project. This piece, whose title translates to “diffused light” in Spanish, marks a significant departure from my previous work. It employs a computer graphics technique known as “volumetric rendering” to create a three-dimensional, almost tactile depth. The subject is depicted as a volume through which virtual light rays travel, producing imagery that evokes dense, fluid forms reminiscent of smoke, clouds, or foam.
The piece was auction by Sotheby’s.
Conceptually and aesthetically, “Luz Difuminada” aligns with my earlier project “Pigments,” as both explore variations of modulated noise and draw inspiration from natural phenomena. The powerful, ominous presence of nature—represented as a wave of smoke or a violent cloud—serves as the central subject and as a metaphor for my state of mind during its creation. This piece vividly portrays the inner turmoil he has experienced over the past year and his deep fascination with the ephemerality of existence and the inevitability of certain events.
Entirely programmed within a single fragment shader using GLSL, “Luz Difuminada” is free from post-processing, alteration, or AI involvement.
