For the Lumen Prize’s 13th anniversary and inaugural benefit auction, I presented Luz Difuminada | Alpha Edition—a unique, one-of-a-kind work from an unreleased generative art project. The title, which translates to “diffused light” in Spanish, signals a deliberate departure from my earlier practice.

The piece explores volumetric rendering, a computer graphics technique that simulates light traveling through three-dimensional space. This approach generates imagery with palpable depth, evoking dense, fluid formations reminiscent of smoke, clouds, or sea foam.

The piece was auctioned by Sotheby’s.

Conceptually and aesthetically, Luz Difuminada resonates with my earlier project Pigments, as both investigate variations of modulated noise and draw inspiration from natural phenomena. At its core lies the overwhelming presence of nature—embodied as a surge of smoke or a violent cloud—serving both as subject and metaphor.

The work reflects my state of mind during its creation: a vivid portrayal of inner turmoil, and a confrontation with the inevitability of certain events.

Programmed entirely within a single fragment shader using GLSL, Luz Difuminada is presented without any post-processing, alterations, or AI involvement.
