Dance deconstruction
Oversteps was commissioned by Slagwerk Den Haag and Eduardo Guerrero for the Flammenco Biennale in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The piece is a de-construction and re-imagining of the “seguiriya”, a traditional flamenco pattern.
Electromyographic sensors are used to alter the way the patterns behave, and how the electronics in the piece unravel. Elements of electronic dance music are interwoven with these patterns in a hybrid manner. The percussion is played using six PercPro’s, a mechanical percussion machine manufactured by Polyend.
The installation was developed for the Flammenco Biennale 2019 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
