Unmute is a concert and a dance performance, a hybrid outcome of a creative encounter between choreographer Keren Levi and composer Yannis Kyriakides. It is a musical and visceral event for and by 3 dancers and 2 musicians – members of percussion ensemble Slagwerk Den Haag.
In collaboration with Yannis Kyiriakides
Composer Yannis Kyriakides commissioned me to create a system to capture and manipulate the signal from 6 MYO sensors that are used in the performance. These armbands emit various metrics such as gyroscope information, muscle effort, accelerometer data, and axial displacement. That data is used to control elements in the music in real-time. Ad-hoc hardware was developed by Michele Abolaffio.
