Overview

De Twaalf Gezworenen was a theatrical production by the Noord Nederlands Toneel (NNT), directed by Guy Weizman — best known as the co-founder and artistic leader of Club Guy & Roni. Based on Reginald Rose's classic 1954 play, the piece follows twelve jurors deliberating the fate of a teenage boy accused of murdering his father. Weizman brought his choreographic sensibility to the material, dissolving the boundary between physical performance and dramatic text to create a production of heightened physicality and visual intensity.

Direction & Concept

Weizman approached the production as an exercise in total theatre — using the body, space, and sound as equal dramatic tools alongside the spoken word. The staging drew audiences directly into the deliberation: mirrors placed behind speakers implicated the audience as jurors themselves. The production opened with the cast moving as a single explosive mass across a bare stage, before gradually tightening into claustrophobic configurations that reflected the mounting tension of the drama.

Music

I composed the original score for the production. The music played an active dramatic role throughout, with driving electronic compositions punctuating the choreographic sequences and building pressure across the piece. Rather than serving as background, the score functioned as a structural element — shaping the rhythm of the performance and amplifying the psychological intensity of the deliberation as it unravelled on stage.
