Dance deconstruction

Oversteps was commissioned by Slagwerk Den Haag and Eduardo Guerrero for the Flamenco Biennale in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The piece is a de-construction and re-imagining of the "seguiriya", a traditional flamenco pattern.

Electromyographic sensors are used to alter the way the patterns behave, and how the electronics in the piece unravel. Elements of electronic dance music are interwoven with these patterns in a hybrid manner. The percussion is played using six PercPro’s, a mechanical percussion machine manufactured by Polyend.
