Overview

POPs Guide is a curated collection of practical examples commissioned by Derivative which I built as part of the official TouchDesigner 2025 release. It is included in the POPs Examples package distributed alongside the introduction of Point Operators (POPs), a completely new family of GPU-based operators and the most significant addition to TouchDesigner in over a decade.

What It Does

The guide covers the full range of POP operators through hands-on, working networks, giving beginners a quick and engaging entry point into the new system. Each example is designed to demonstrate how a specific operator works in a practical context, with a minimal set of nodes to keep the networks clear and readable. Where certain operators call for more complexity — to properly showcase their potential — the examples scale up accordingly.

Approach

The guide is built around a simple principle: make the examples accessible without making them dull. Finding the right balance between clarity and creative interest is an ongoing process, and the collection is treated as a living resource, updated and refined over time.
