Audiovisual performance
Strange Attractors is an audiovisual live performance by Darien Brito (Quito, Ecuador, 1987), an audiovisual artist and creative coder based in the Netherlands. The work is heavily influenced by chaotic systems — first described by Edward Lorenz while researching weather patterns — and explores how such systems can generate rich textures of sound while simultaneously forming ordered geometrical structures in both 2D and 3D.
The piece follows an abstract narrative arc, moving from minimalistic landscapes toward dense textures and abstraction. It sits at the intersection of mathematics, music, and visual art — using the inherent unpredictability of chaotic equations as compositional material.
Concept
The project reflects a long-standing fascination with chaos theory. I have revisited this family of equations repeatedly over the years — in both the audio and visual domains — finding that they produce structures that are simultaneously beautiful and mysterious.
